Safety data sheets (SDSs) are often the most important source of information for the users of chemicals. There have been several changes to the regulations concerning the classification of chemical products since SDS legislation was first introduced in 1993, most recently: Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 on the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP), which is the EU implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). The requirements for safety data sheets are now laid down in Article 31 of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), with specific details given in REACH Annex II as revised in May 2010 by Regulation (EC) No 453/2010.
Sara Wilson has over twenty years’ experience of classifying chemical products and compiling safety data sheets, and has taken part in projects to assess and improve the quality of safety data sheets. She keeps up to date by reviewing published guidance and attending relevant training courses.
Seil Synergies offers classification of products and production of safety data sheets in compliance with current regulations: CLP/REACH and GHS.
